1. Acceptance of Terms

By installing or using Compass Docs ("the App"), you ("Merchant") agree to these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, uninstall the App immediately.

2. Description of Service

Compass Docs is a Shopify embedded app that enables merchants to attach PDF documents (manuals, spec sheets, warranty information, installation guides, compliance documents, and general files) to products and display them on their online storefront via theme blocks.

3. Eligibility

You must have an active Shopify store and comply with Shopify's Terms of Service. You must be 18 years or older and authorized to bind your business to these Terms.

4. Account and Access

  • Access is provided through Shopify's OAuth flow. No separate account creation is required.
  • You are responsible for all activity under your Shopify store's installation.
  • We reserve the right to suspend access for violations of these Terms.

5. Billing and Payments

  • The App offers a free Starter plan and paid plans (Growth, Professional) billed through Shopify's Billing API on a recurring monthly basis.
  • All charges are processed by Shopify. We do not store or handle payment information directly.
  • Free trial: New subscriptions may include a trial period. Charges begin automatically when the trial ends unless you cancel before that date.
  • Upgrades/downgrades take effect immediately through the App — no support contact required.
  • Cancellations can be made at any time from within the App. Access continues through the end of the current billing period.
  • Refunds, if applicable, are processed through Shopify's standard refund mechanisms.
  • Pricing is displayed in your store's local currency where supported by Shopify.

6. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Upload files that infringe third-party intellectual property rights
  • Upload malicious files, executable code, or files that are not PDF documents
  • Use the App to distribute illegal, fraudulent, or harmful content
  • Attempt to reverse-engineer, bypass security, or disrupt the App's infrastructure
  • Exceed usage limits imposed by your plan

7. Content and Data

  • Your content: Documents you upload remain your property. You grant us a limited license to store and serve them solely to provide the App's functionality.
  • Data we store: We store document metadata (file names, categories, ordering) and widget configuration settings associated with your Shopify shop.
  • No customer data: The App does not collect, store, or process your customers' personal data. Document browsing on the storefront is read-only and anonymous.
  • Data retention: Upon uninstall, your data is deleted in accordance with Shopify's shop/redact GDPR webhook (processed within 48 hours of uninstall).

8. GDPR and Privacy

We comply with Shopify's GDPR requirements:

  • Customer data requests are responded to within 30 days.
  • Customer data deletion requests are processed upon receipt of the customers/redact webhook.
  • Shop data deletion is processed within 48 hours of app uninstall via the shop/redact webhook.

9. Intellectual Property

  • The App, its code, design, and branding are owned by the developer and protected by applicable intellectual property laws.
  • You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works from the App.
  • Shopify® is a trademark of Shopify Inc. We are an independent app developer and are not affiliated with Shopify Inc.

10. Disclaimers

THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT.

We do not guarantee:

  • Uninterrupted or error-free service
  • That uploaded files will be permanently retained (dependent on Shopify's file storage)
  • Compatibility with all Shopify themes without configuration

11. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, OUR TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO THE APP SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE THREE (3) MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM.

WE SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING LOST PROFITS OR DATA LOSS.

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless the developer from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from: (a) your use of the App; (b) your violation of these Terms; (c) content you upload through the App.

13. Modifications to the App and Terms

  • We reserve the right to modify the App or these Terms at any time.
  • Material changes will be communicated via the App interface or to your Shopify store email.
  • Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

14. Termination

  • You may terminate by uninstalling the App from your Shopify admin.
  • We may terminate or suspend access for violations of these Terms with or without notice.
  • Upon termination, your license to use the App ends immediately.

15. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Italy, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of Italy,Pavia.
